Our view on the living environment is changing, as well as the forms that develop from that in relation to the city, the neighbourhood and communities. The people and communities stand central in this ‘civic economy’. It is about reinforcing relations, and thus creating strong social networks.

But, how can we shape social issues from a bottom-up movement? And how can we build up local and involved networks? The Beach and ciA. will take you through their developed design approach: Sustainist Design (where everyone is a designer).

Inspirational speakers will share their field experiences on urban questions. Step by step they will take you through the design process so that you can also contribute to your environment.

In a compact programme, they share their views on sustainsit design. They will engage participants in a co-design process to explore how you personally can get started.

  • Thami Schweichler (Makers Unite) and Michiel Schwarz (Sustainism Lab)  about making, connecting and engaging with newcomers.
  • Dorendel Overmars (Geluksdisco / Westside Slotermeer) and Richard Gerritsen (ciA.) about connecting and ownership at the scale of a neighborhood.
  • Lisa Hu (Terra Nova) and Mariët ten Berge (Stichting Westelijke Tuinsteden) about developing communities and networks in education.
  • Madelinde Hageman (Herrekijken) and Diana Krabbendam (The Beach) about co-design as driver for social and sustainable development.

In workshops participants explore how they can co-design around topics addressed by the speakers.
